One of the characterising things about Ibadan are the rust coloured roofs that cover most buildings. During a recent visit, I noticed newer buildings which had been built with colourful roofing sheets as opposed to the usual zinc plated roofing sheets which slowly rusted with age to give the characteristic colour. I wonder how long it would be before the beautiful sea of rust brown roofs will be replaced by a bright scattering of colour.
I took this photograph from a hill overlooking the older part of the city.
This one overlooks the city centre where lots of redevelopment is bringing the brighter coloured roofs.
I imagine that eventually, this sea of rusty brown roofs will be a thing of the past.
